A lively, youthful, down-to-Earth college town - 9/5/2022
East Lansing is a wonderful, lively, youthful college town that has gotten better over time. You feel the strong Spartan Spirit everywhere as students, alumni and locals alike deeply love and appreciate this world-class university and its environs.

Also, because MSU is the land-grant and agricultural college, the atmosphere is also very down-to-Earth where all are welcome and there is little sense of exclusivity.

I went to grad school (as a single) here in the early 2000s. At first I was disappointed, but after peeling back the layers, I realized how globally connected MSU is and how many amazing scholars are here who are just normal, approachable folks in the neighborhood.

Still, I used to feel that EL and the Greater Lansing area were below their potential. When I went back home in WI and visited cities like Madison, I felt that Michigan was somewhat stuck in the past. (Just one more GM plant will restore our glory!)

East Lansing -- a very nice university town - 5/30/2015
East Lansing is noted for being the home of one of the first Land Grant colleges -- Michigan State University. MSU has an large campus with an enormous area of land south of the campus dedicated to animal husbandry and agriculture. The green and white colors of Michigan State were chosen to reflect its dedication to agriculture at the time of its founding. But MSU now offers degrees in many technical fields and even has a law school.

East Lansing is a fun place because the college students bring a lot of bustle to what would otherwise be a quiet city. The university has wonderful facilities and their theater brings many touring shows and theater companies to town. In addition, there are the sports events. MSU is noted for its football and basketball programs, but they have a variety of other sports teams that draw crowds to the various arenas located on campus.

Of course, being a university town, a significant fraction of the population are professors Read More

East Lansing - 2/24/2008
East Lansing is a very pretty town. The town has had frequent problems with
student rioters. Overall 60% of the town is composed of students. I would
recommend East Lansing as a place to get a quality higher education but perhaps
not as the place to raise a family. East Lansing offers a lot of cultural things to do and has many good rests. East Lansing has a low crime rate. Pick wisely
the part of town in which you chose to live unless you enjoy listening to

the truth about east lansing - 6/27/2006
East Lansing is a college town, and most of the people that live here go to MSU. It has a pretty good nightlife, with room for improvement. The bars are always crowded, parking is bad. There are families in some parts of East Lansing, but mostly loud and drunken college students. I think it's fun here but I want to leave after I graduate from Read More
